Burradoo History

The Burradoo Polocrosse Club is now the oldest Polocrosse Club in the world which has being in continual since 1945. Throughout Burradoo’s history, the club has had several home grounds, the first being opposite the main gates at Chevalier College in Burradoo, from where the club gets its name. Since then the club has moved five times and now is located at the famous Historical Bong Bong Picnic Racetrack in Bowral.

Our club throughout the years has always had a strong base of social and playing members, which has formed the backbone of our club’s strength and existence. Because of this, we have held and still do hold successful tournaments and social events.

Over the years Burradoo has hosted many major events, including Australian Zone Championships and international competitions. We have supplied horses and hosted players from New Zealand, Zimbabwe, South Africa and Pupua New Guinea. These tournaments had fantastic support from our local business and community and over the weekends we had large attendances of spectators.

Throughout our history we have enjoyed having numerous quality players, who have played for the NSW state sides and for Australia. We are also privileged to have Max Walters AM, MBE who started playing with Burradoo as a junior and today is still a social member.

The Burradoo club throughout its time has been approached, because of its known horsemanship and people numbers, to be involved in riding horses for television advertisements, promotional launches for luxury 4WD vehicles, coaching demonstration videos, and horse and rider extras for live productions and more recently in the Polocrosse demonstration games at the 2000 Olympics in Sydney.

Our club is now working strongly towards establishing an equestrian facility in conjunction with Bong Bong Picnic Race Club, Bowral Show Society and Bowral Dressage Club. Together we are developing a permanent equestrian facility to encourage other equestrian and non-equestrian sporting groups and events to utilise a good quality facility close to Bowral and its infrastructure
